UAE offers condolences to victims of Bangladeshi Air Force jet crash

ABDUL GONI / AFP

The UAE has expressed its solidarity with Bangladesh following the deadly crash of the country's Air Force jet in Dhaka that struck a school and college campus, resulting in heavy casualties.

The F-7 BGI training jet crashed on Monday after suffering a mechanical failure shortly after takeoff, killing at least 27 people (25 being children), with 88 being treated in a hospital.

The aircraft hit a two-storey building on campus despite the pilot’s reported efforts to steer it away from the densely populated area. The pilot was among those killed.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered its sincere condolences to the victims’ families, the interim government and the people of Bangladesh and wished a swift recovery to the injured.
