A UAE-led international operation targeting organised cyber crime has identified more than $39 billion in funds and digital currencies linked to fraudulent activities.
'Operation Confrontation Ghost' helped thwart more than 123 million cyber fraud attempts worldwide, and resulted in more than 960 arrests, while over 3,500 suspects and 15,500 victims were identified.
The initiative was led by the UAE Ministry of Interior and involved law enforcement authorities from 30 countries, alongside Interpol, the Global Anti-Fraud Alliance and 13 private-sector entities.
Conducted between July and September, the three-month operation targeted scams involving artificial intelligence, financial fraud through digital platforms and online extortion.
Authorities exchanged more than 9,000 pieces of intelligence, blocked 4,126 bank accounts, closed more than 570 social media accounts linked to fraud and raided 29 fraud centres.
The operation brought together law enforcement agencies and technology and financial-services companies to share intelligence, track suspected criminal activity and disrupt fraud networks.
Its results were announced on the sidelines of the 13th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime in Vienna.
