UAE President, Singaporean PM discuss boosting ties

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has discussed ways to strengthen ties with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, with partnerships in higher education and health sectors inked on Wednesday.

An MoU on a Joint Energy Task Force, aimed at further strengthening the UAE-Singapore Comprehensive Partnership, was also signed.

It followed talks by the leaders in Abu Dhabi as part of Wong's official visit to the UAE.

The two sides explored opportunities to expand cooperation in areas including the economy, investment, education, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, innovation and renewable energy, national news agency Wam reported.

The leaders also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest, underscoring the importance of dialogue and stability as foundations for lasting progress and prosperity.

The UAE President later hosted a banquet in honour of Wong and his accompanying delegation.

Wong expressed his pleasure at visiting the UAE and his hope for continued growth in bilateral relations, and signed the VIP guestbook.

Wong also attended a high-level bilateral business dialogue at Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi.

Hosted by Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority, the event brought together senior officials from both countries to explore opportunities for cooperation in artificial intelligence, advanced technology and energy.

Wong said he had "good discussions with leaders of major Emirati companies" to "explore opportunities to strengthen energy security, diversify supply chains and build resilience against future disruptions".

Khaldoon highlighted that the UAE and Singapore have built a strong and longstanding partnership, grounded in shared priorities and a commitment to innovation.

Upon arrival, Wong was accorded an official reception ceremony and a guard of honour.
