Up to 409 mosquito breeding sites have been eliminated to stop the spread of dengue fever in the UAE, Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, confirmed.

Al Owais was responding to a question on the topic of the virus during the latest meeting with the Federal National Council.

Nine specialist teams from the Emirates Health Services Corporation used GPS trackers to locate the sites, which have increased across the country following last month’s flooding.

Cases of dengue fever have been reported in Dubai at an unusually high rate following the wet weather.

Globally the number of cases of dengue fever has been rising and is endemic in more than 100 countries, according to the World Health Organisation.
