UAE airlifts humanitarian aid supplies to Sudan

Dubai Media Office

The UAE has airlifted urgent humanitarian aid and medical supplies to Sudan.

It comes following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The International Humanitarian City chartered two aircraft to transport the items from the WHO’s logistics hub in Dubai.

The supplies will ease critical shortages of medicines in Sudan's health facilities and improve access to protective and biomedical equipment required for managing COVID-19.

Over 700,000 people are expected to benefit from the latest batch of aid, weighing 54 tonnes, and valued at USD 745,000 (AED 2.73 million).

The first plane landed in Khartoum on Sunday, while the second one arrived on Monday.

This marks the first time the WHO logistics hub in Dubai is simultaneously deploying technical logistics staff and medical supplies from Dubai to accelerate a health emergency response in support of WHO staff on the frontline.
