Two men have been detained in Abu Dhabi after a social media video showed them going out in public despite testing positive for COVID-19.
The Public Prosecution in Abu Dhabi said their move posed a threat to the lives of others and violated the preventive measures that have been put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The video, shot and posted on social media by one of the accused, shows the young man heading out after showing his positive test result on his phone.
The authority said the detention order was sent after they identified the culprits through their video.
Officials said further investigation will follow, adding that Article 38 of the UAE Federal Law stipulates that violators will face jail time and, or, a fine ranging between AED 10,000 and AED 50,000.
