His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, led the UAE delegation that participated in the official mourning ceremony held yesterday in Tehran to pay tribute to the late Iranian President, Foreign Minister and others who passed away in a helicopter crash.
His Highness conveyed the condolences and sympathies of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During his meeting with Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran's Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s solidarity with Iran.
He also appreciated the outstanding efforts made by the late Iranian Foreign Minister in support of strengthening relations between the two countries.
The delegation included Khalifa Shaheen Almarar, Minister of State, Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee at the Federal National Council, and Saif Mohammed Al Zaabi, the UAE Ambassador to Iran.
The mourning ceremony was held at the International Conference Hall in the Iranian capital in the presence of leaders and representatives of several world countries.
Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, underlined the need for a long-term diplomatic approach to stability in the region on Saturday, and said some media coverage has misrepresented the country’s position, as tensions with Iran continue to escalate.
Rainfall in various regions of the UAE on Friday reached significant levels due to the unstable weather conditions, with Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Al Ain recording the highest accumulations, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
