Motorists in the capital are being warned about the risks of jumping red signals.

In a social media post, Abu Dhabi Police said surveillance cameras have caught drivers speeding to cross signals as the lights turn red.

Some motorists were even caught using their mobile phones while crossing the signal, which is punishable by law.

Authorities have revealed that violators will be slapped with AED1,000 in fines, 12 black points and their vehicles impounded for 30 days.

As for drivers of heavy vehicles and trucks, the violation costs AED 3,000 in fines and the suspension of their licence for a year.

Motorists have been urged to abide by all traffic regulations to ensure their well-being and the safety of others.
