More than half a million motorists have benefited from the Traffic Fines Settlement initiative in Dubai last year.
According to Dubai Police, more than 400,000 of the beneficiaries were women, while more than 110,000 were men.
The first-of-its-kind initiative, which rewards Dubai motorists for their good driving, has helped reduce traffic-related costs by more than AED 6.1 million.
It has also reduced the number of fatal traffic accidents by 16 per cent and has seen a 38 per cent drop in the number of severe injuries on the road.
Looking at the positive impact, the Dubai Police has announced its decision to extend the initiative for a year.
Under the plan, the discount will be calculated on how long the driver maintains a clean record. Those who don't commit traffic violations for 3 months get 25 per cent discount on previous fines, while those maintaining a clean record for six months will be eligible for 50 per cent rebate. A nine-month streak will earn a 75 per cent discount, while a full year will result in the fines wiped out entirely.
