Gargash: Political solution needs guarantees against repeat Iranian attacks

The diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, Anwar Gargash, said on Sunday any political solution to Iranian attacks on Gulf countries must include firm guarantees to prevent further aggression.

In a post on social media, he said such a framework should uphold the principle of non-aggression and include reparations for damage caused to civilian infrastructure and facilities.

He added that Iran had misled neighbouring countries about its intentions ahead of the conflict, despite what he described as efforts to avoid escalation.

The adviser said these factors underline the need for a comprehensive political approach to address what he called a growing threat to regional security.

The comments follow a post on Saturday, where Gargash underlined the need for a long-term diplomatic approach to stability in the region, and said some media coverage had misrepresented the country's position, as tensions with Iran continue to escalate.

He said the country had faced “weeks” of what he described as Iranian aggression targeting infrastructure and threatening civilian lives.

The UAE had responded with “steadfastness and efficiency”, he said, stressing that defending the country’s autonomy was both “an honour and a responsibility”.

Gargash also underlined the need for a longer-term diplomatic approach, saying a political solution was essential to ensure lasting stability in the region.

He warned against what he described as temporary measures that could risk prolonging instability for decades.
