A new initiative has been launched in the UAE to support low-income expatriates battling cancer and multiple sclerosis.

They will be provided with medication as part of the Ministry of Health and Prevention's (MOHAP) new agreement with the pharmaceutical firm Merck Serono, and Manzil Healthcare Services.

The programme will benefit patients diagnosed with colorectal, head and neck, and urothelial cancer, as well as multiple sclerosis.

It aims to support those who don't have medical insurance and those with partial coverage.

"The initiative is one of a series of memoranda of understanding signed by the ministry to improve the services provided to low-income patients and secure their access to high-quality medicines," said Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for the Health Regulation Sector at MOHAP.

"It will help doctors follow the best practices in the treatment plan, and enable patients to follow up and complete their treatment plan," he added.
