Dubai set for launch of world's largest waste-to-energy project

The world's largest waste-to-energy project in Dubai will launch its initial phase of operations early next year.

The Dubai Waste Management Centre is currently 75 per cent complete.

Two of its five treatment lines will operate initially, generating 80 Megawatt-hours (Mwh) of renewable energy by processing 2,000 tonnes of solid waste in a day.

The project, led by Dubai Municipality, aims to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills and create alternative sustainable energy sources.

Upon completion in 2024, the facility will be able to process 5,666 tonnes of solid waste per day, converting and producing 200 Mwh of clean energy into the local power grid.
