A driver whose cruise control malfunctioned while travelling on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road has been rescued by Dubai Police, preventing what could have been a serious accident.

Specialised teams were dispatched after the operations room received an urgent report about a vehicle that would not respond to the accelerator or brakes.

Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, said officers coordinated a safe escort, guiding the panicked driver over the phone while clearing traffic around the vehicle.

Thanks to their quick action, the driver was able to pull over safely, without injuries or major damage.

Bin Suwaidan praised the patrol teams for their efficiency and urged motorists to stay calm in similar situations.

He advised turning on hazard lights and headlights, calling 999, and attempting to shift the car into neutral, restart the engine or apply steady brake pressure to slow down.

If those steps don’t work, carefully use the handbrake or alternate between neutral and drive to regain control.

Dubai Police are also urging motorists to carry out regular vehicle inspections, especially of brakes and cruise control systems, and to always be aware of how to respond in an emergency.
