Thousands of prisoners in Dubai have returned to their home countries, thanks to the efforts of local authorities who funded their air tickets.
As many as 1,145 male and female inmates who completed their jail terms have been repatriated during the first half of this year.
Dubai Police along with different charities and philanthropists spent more than AED 1.47 million to help prisoners who couldn't afford to buy their flight tickets.
The gesture is part of 'Your Return Is A Duty’ initiative organised by the general department of punitive and correctional institutions.
The campaign has also been helping inmates and their families with food assistance, medical equipment as well as children's school fees.
