Abu Dhabi arrests 109 for filming and sharing inaccurate videos online

Authorities in Abu Dhabi have arrested 109 people for filming and sharing "inaccurate" videos on social media during recent regional developments in a bid to spread misinformation and cause public fear.

Abu Dhabi Police said "necessary legal and administrative" action has been taken against all violators.

The public is reminded not to film sites or publish clips that can threaten public security, spread confusion and be exploited by hostile media to distort facts.

They urged the people to obtain information solely from authorised official sources, and to refrain from publishing or reposting any unverified content.

On March 14, the UAE Attorney-General had said that violators could face at least one year in prison and a minimum fine of AED 100,000.
