128 vehicles fined in Dubai for running on faulty tyres

Authorities in Dubai have called on motorists to ensure their car tyres are in good condition before hitting the road.

The reminder comes after 128 vehicles were fined by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) during a recent crackdown on faulty tyres.

The month-long inspection campaign covered 7,353 vehicles (3,724 of them were heavy trucks) as well as 55 cars belonging to driving institutes.

"The vehicle will not pass the technical test if the tyres are expired i.e. their lifespan exceeds 5 years from the date of manufacturing. The same applies to tyres that are seriously worn out or have cuts. Certain types of tyres are not fit for use on public roads such as mountain and snow tyres," said Mohammed Waleed Nabhan, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at the RTA's Licensing Agency.

"These campaigns aim to raise public awareness about the compliance with sound technical specifications of vehicles rather than issuing offences and collecting fines."
