Batting first, the hosts amassed 397 for 6 with captain Eoin Morgan smashing 148 which included 17 sixes - the most ever by a batsman in an ODI innings.
In reply Afghanistan batted out their 50 overs, finishing on 247 for 8.
The win takes England to the top of the points table while Afghanistan remains at rock bottom.
