Strong quake strikes eastern India

A strong earthquake of magnitude 5.9 has struck India's northeastern region on Wednesday.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre of the shallow quake was about 40 km southeast of Along, and 180 km southwest of the state capital Itanagar.

The quake struck at 1:45 am (local time) on Wednesday, with the USGS revising the magnitude down from 6.1.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, but was felt in neighbouring Tibet.
