Dubai set for grand Diwali celebrations

Dubai has once again lined up a diverse array of events and activities to mark Diwali, the festival of lights.

This year, the Diwali in Dubai calendar is packed with fantastic offers, thrilling raffles, live entertainment and incredible fireworks displays and captivating events taking place throughout the emirate from October 14-28.

Organised and presented by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), the colourful calendar of events has been launched in collaboration with the Consulate General of India.

Major shopping malls and retailers, including Dubai Festival City Mall, City Centre Deira, Oasis Mall, BurJuman Mall, Deira Waterfront Market, City Centre Al Shindagha, Festival Plaza Jebel Ali and Lulu Hypermarket have lined up a wide variety of contests, performances and promotions.

Several live shows and concerts will also take place during the festive period, including Coke Studio Live for its first ever live performance in Dubai at Coca-Cola Arena on October 14.

The iconic Global Village, which opens on October 25, will celebrate Diwali with Bollywood shows, special cultural performances as well as musical fireworks (October 28).

"Diwali in Dubai is a special celebration with the large Indian diaspora joining in revelry with their friends and families from several nationalities in Dubai. Over the years, Diwali in Dubai has gained wide popularity with tourists and residents enjoying the exciting line up of display of fireworks and shopping experiences," said Dr. Aman Puri, Consul General of India to Dubai.

Mohammed Feras Arayqat, Director Retail Registration at DFRE, said: "Diwali in Dubai is an important celebration of our city’s diversity and our strong and historic links with India and its people that go back for generations."

"This festival is about celebrating Diwali alongside our Indian residents and visitors, underscoring our status as a global city that is home to more than 200 nationalities, and strengthening Dubai’s position as a world-leading retail and entertainment destination where everyone can find unique experiences all year round," he added.
