Charlie Puth originally wrote See You Again for Sam Smith

Charlie Puth never intended to sing 'See You Again' himself. The 24-year-old singer has become a household name thanks to the track, which featured as a tribute to the late actor Paul Walker in movie 'Furious 7'. But Charlie has revealed in a new interview that he originally wrote the song's famous hook for Sam Smith. He said: "It's interesting: I mean, I didn't even think that I was going to sing it!" Charlie co-wrote the song with Wiz Khalifa, and that was meant to be where his involvement in it ended. But once he realised he wanted to perform the song himself, Sam's collaboration was out of the window. He added to People magazine: "I [recorded the track] as a reference vocal for Sam Smith to potentially sing. Singing it was what I wanted, but I wasn't admitting it to myself." Charlie and Wiz are up for three Grammy awards with the song - Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Song Written for Visual Media. His next offering is a duet with Selena Gomez - 'We Don't Talk Anymore'. Charlie recently revealed that the success of the track is despite the fact the pair ended up recording it in a closet. He told ET Online: "She came over and I literally set the mic up in a closet. So, I can say that I've vocal produced Selena Gomez while she's in a closet recording. It was, like, the most ghetto set up ever, but I think it added to the quaintness of the record. She did a really good job, too."
