Volkswagen may offer customers in Germany discounts on new cars, in exchange for old models affected by the emissions scandal. German news agency DPA says the special offers may focus on users of VW vehicles with 1.6 litre diesel engines that are said to require costly hardware upgrades. The scandal has now cost the car-maker over AED 120 billion, including a recall of 8.5 million vehicles in Europe. In December, the company admitted to installing a cheat software in its diesel vehicles to pass emissions tests in the US.
