Global leaders discuss energy transition, security at CEO roundtable

WAM

The seventh Abu Dhabi CEO roundtable meeting focused on energy transition and security as the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) gets underway.

The meeting took place between global energy leaders and host Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

The oil and gas industry officials discussed steps to reduce emissions further and contribute to practical solutions to climate change, according to a national media WAM report, as the UAE gears up to host the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) in 2023.

Notably, the CEOs also discussed the critical role of oil and gas in combating energy poverty and the need to ensure energy security while building the energy systems of the future.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, called the meeting “an important opportunity for global energy leaders to reflect on the impact of the outcomes of COP26,” and work together with the future in mind.

“The current supply crunch has exposed the vulnerability of the global energy system and highlighted the need for continued investments in carbon-efficient oil and gas while expanding renewable energy power as we work towards a lower carbon future,” added Al Jaber.

The roundtable had over 30 of the world’s leading oil, gas and petrochemicals chief executives in attendance and took place on the eve of ADIPEC 2021.

Representatives from ARAMCO, ExxonMobil, BP, IndianOil, Eni, TotalEnergies, and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) were some of the major players reportedly present at the meeting.
