Ed Sheeran confirmed the news - his new acoustic album Subtract will come out on May 5th
He opened up on his Instagram about the writing process and how devastating personal news shaped the album.
Ed said within the space of a month, his pregnant wife got told she had a tumor “with no route to treatment until after the birth.”
“My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter.”
Ed says he was spiraling through “fear, depression and anxiety”
