UAE will remain advocates of peace, not war: Gargash

Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE president, took to social media on Sunday to commend the UAE leaders for handling the regional crisis with "wisdom and steadfastness", as "we approach the signing of the long-awaited agreement between Washington and Tehran".

He expressed hope that the peace agreement "will turn the page on war and open a political path that proves successful".

The UAE, he added has "never been advocates of war, and we will always remain advocates of peace and stability". This, "while holding firmly to the defence of the homeland and the preservation of its sovereignty and interests," Gargash wrote.

President Donald Trump posted on social media that the deal with Iran was scheduled to be signed on Sunday, his 80th birthday.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the two sides had agreed on a framework for a peace deal and that Islamabad was preparing for an electronic signing on Sunday, to be followed by technical-level talks in the coming week.
