The UAE will remain on the 'red list' for travel to the UK.

No new countries have been added to the 'green list' in the latest review of the British government's travel traffic light system.

Bahrain, Afghanistan, Costa Rica, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Trinidad & Tobago are the latest additions to the 'red list'.

Meanwhile, Portugal has been downgraded from green to amber on the list, which means people can only travel there for essential reasons.

Transport Minister Grant Shapps said that Portugal has been moved due to rising COVID-19 case numbers and the risk of a mutation of the Delta virus variant (first discovered in India).

Passengers arriving in the UK from 'amber' countries can quarantine at home or in the place they are staying (for 10 days), rather than in a government-sanctioned hotel.

All changes to the lists will come into effect on June 8 (at 0300 GMT).
