The Ministry of Defence on Thursday evening revealed that UAE air defences were responding to incoming missile and drone threats from Iran that lasted just over one hour.
The MOD asserted that the sounds heard were the result of the Air Defence Systems intercepting missiles and drones and that residents had been alerted.
Residents have received a missile alert on their phones at just after 8pm local time.
At 9:08pm, another alert was sent to phones confirming that the situation was now currently safe and normal activities could be resumed but to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.
When receiving an alert, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) insist that members of the public do not leave their homes or places of residence, or even to stop their cars to record videos.
Residents are advised to head to a safe place and take shelter until an all clear alert is issued for the area.
