UAE envoy highlights strong relations with Germany ahead of President's state visit

UAE Ambassador to Germany, Ahmed Al Attar, has highlighted the country's efforts to expand "economic cooperation with countries" around the world as it "liberalises markets", ahead of the state visit of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Germany.

Speaking to ARN News in Berlin, the diplomat said the UAE’s strong position helps it play an increasingly prominent role in international diplomacy.

"I think it's a culture of excellence that we have in the UAE, the desire to be and to grow larger, the comfort of the UAE to explore new fields but also to increase its economic cooperation with different countries... to open markets and to form excellent companies," he added.

Al Attar added that Sheikh Mohamed's visit represents a significant milestone in UAE–German relations and opens up broad opportunities to further strengthen and elevate bilateral cooperation.

"Since 1972, the UAE and Germany have steadily built a partnership that has grown stronger with each passing year. The signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement in 2004 marked an important milestone, establishing a broader framework for cooperation between the two countries. This was followed by a series of important steps to further reinforce bilateral ties," he added.

Sheikh Mohamed's state visit will begin with a meeting with Chancellor Frederick Merz and President Frank Walter Steinmeier on Wednesday.

The visit follows a period of significant growth in bilateral trade which has now surpassed $15.7 billion, with German imports from the UAE increasing by more than 50 per cent in 2025.

Nearly 2,000 German companies now operate within the UAE, reflecting the depth of partnership that spans energy, technology and advanced industry. The visit forms part of a broader growing UAE-Europe partnership as Germany continues to diversify its economic and strategic relationships.

The UAE and Germany are increasingly focusing on sectors that will shape the future of the economy, from artificial intelligence to advanced technologies, clean energy, hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and logistics.”

Al Attar noted, “Germany offers leading industrial, technical, and research expertise, while the UAE offers an advanced investment ecosystem, advanced infrastructure, and a strategic location connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa.

This integration unlocks opportunities for new investments and innovative projects, while offering broader prospects for startups, entrepreneurs, and young talent in both countries.

The visit reflects a mutual commitment to develop the partnership and transform cooperation opportunities into constructive projects and initiatives, while creating new opportunities that serve the interests of both countries and their peoples and pave the way for a more prosperous future.

In the energy sector, prospects for cooperation are expanding across renewable energy, hydrogen, and climate technologies, supporting energy security while accelerating the transition toward a more sustainable future.
