The UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has enabled some apps that use video calls to support employees working from home and distance learning, amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.

They include Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Blackboard, Skype for Business and Google Hangouts.

The government entity, which is responsible for regulating the telecom sector, made the announcement on Tuesday, March 24, in the context of the “emergency procedures” in place across the UAE.

It said the roll out was being done in coordination with Etisalat & Du until further notice.

While Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Blackboard are now available across all networks in the country, Skype for Business and Google Hangouts are only compatible on fixed internet networks.

In a statement, the TRA said they will “occasionally review” the list of available apps.
