The UAE has underscored the importance of protecting civilian and diplomatic buildings, as well as the residences of embassy staff, in accordance with international law after Qatar's Embassy in Kyiv was damaged amid shelling in the city.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to continuing efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

It also reemphasised its call for diplomacy, dialogue and de-escalation amid deteriorating humanitarian conditions and the continued suffering of civilians.

On Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Qatari Embassy building in Kyiv was damaged during a large-scale attack on the city.

In a statement, Qatar expressed deep regret at the incident, while confirming that "none of its diplomats or embassy staff were harmed".
