UAE Attorney-General Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi has ordered the formation of a team from the Public Prosecution to investigate the incident involving flydubai flight FZ1073 on Wednesday.
The team will work on gathering all information and evidence, determining the motives surrounding the incident, and verifying whether it is linked to any terrorist activity or whether the incident was pre-planned.
It has started carrying out its operation in coordination with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and relevant authorities in the UAE.
The incident included an altercation that occurred during the flight travelling from Dubai International Airport to Tel Aviv, which prompted the intervention of crew members on board to divert and land safely at Saudi Arabia's Tabuk Airport.
UAE authorities have jurisdiction to investigate the incident under the legislation in force, as the aircraft is registered in the country and flies the UAE flag, the state news agency WAM reported.
UAE law therefore applies to crimes committed on board the aircraft, even if they occur outside the country's territory.
The UAE also expressed its appreciation to the Saudi authorities for their cooperation and handling of the incident.
Al Shamsi stressed that investigations are ongoing, urging the public to refrain from speculation or circulating unverified information until the competent authorities complete their efforts to gather and verify the facts.
He also urged the public to rely on information and statements issued by official sources.
