The region's first battery solar system has opened at the Al Dhafra Landfill.
The solar-plus-storage plant at the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer) is expected to save 138,000 litres of diesel fuel and 117 tons of CO2 emissions annually which is equivalent to planting 13,000 trees.
Officials from the plant say the project aligns with their strategy to run their facilities on renewable energy through adopting clean solutions.
Dr. Salem Al Kaabi, Acting General Manager of Tadweer, states that the plant is taking a significant step towards decreasing the carbon footprint of its facilities while supporting the decarbonisation targets of the UAE Vision 2021, the UAE Green Agenda 2015-2030 and the National Climate Change Plan of the UAE 2017-2050.
