The most ancient Christian site discovered in the UAE is now open to the public
The historic church and monastery is located on Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
The site, which was discovered in the early nineties, dates back to the seventh and eighth centuries.
The site was officially opened by Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Mohammad Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism.
Several priests and archaeological experts were also present at the ceremony.
