Nominations have opened for an awards programme which honours UAE citizens who’ve made significant contributions to the society. Under the UAE Pioneers initiative, all Emiratis can nominate themselves or others in areas including education, health, economy, military, sport and innovation. Its second edition has been launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Winners will be honoured on the sidelines of the UAE's 44th National Day celebrations on December 2, and will also have their names archived in the Government Year Book. 43 people were honoured last year- including the country's first doctor, inventor, professor, broadcaster, policewoman and other personalities. Nominations can be made through social media platforms or www.uaepioneers.ae
