Authorities in the UAE are making it easier for healthcare providers to communicate with patients who are speech and hearing-impaired.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has launched a new smart application which converts sign language into audible speech and vice versa.

The translation process takes place in real-time via algorithms and all it requires is a smart device camera and internet connection.

Officials say the move will ensure quicker diagnosis and help reduce medication errors.

The platform has been unveiled in partnership with the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence at the Arab Health exhibition, which kicked off in Dubai on  Monday.
