UAE nominee for UN Secretary-General, Lana Nusseibeh, has emphasised that the position must be an active force for diplomacy and peace.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Nusseibeh reaffirmed her commitment to an independent UN, guided by the organisation’s Charter.
She pledged to engage with all member states, including Iran, while supporting efforts to promote peace and stability.
Nusseibeh also stressed that the UN Secretary-General should be "an actor rather than a spectator" in responding to global crises.
Addressing the situation in Sudan, Nusseibeh described it as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, highlighting famine conditions and the pressure on neighbouring countries hosting refugees.
She said she would put the UN’s full political and practical support behind efforts to secure a ceasefire and establish an inclusive political process reflecting the democratic aspirations of the Sudanese people.
I spoke with @Bloomberg about my candidacy for UN Secretary-General and my belief that the office must be an active force for diplomacy and peace:
