IPU President praises UAE's efforts to combat COVID-19 pandemic

During talks with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), hailed the nation's efforts in the global fight against Covid-19.

Duarte Pacheco also lauded the UAE's keenness to ensure a rapid and free vaccine rollout, in addition to its support for other nations during the pandemic.

He spoke highly of the country's humanitarian track record, describing it as a model to be emulated for the significant financial and logistics support provided around the globe in times of natural disasters, crises and pandemics.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed reviewed the prospects of promoting the culture of tolerance, acceptance and peaceful co-existence between all cultures, races and beliefs with the IPU President.

They discussed the role of national parliaments and councils in bridging the distances between nations, as well as promoting dialogue and openness between religions.

Pacheo thanked the UAE's leadership, government and people, for the support provided to him during his run for the IPU presidency, which he won in November, 2020.

Other senior officials at the meeting included Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Cabinet Member and Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Shaibani, Director General of His Highness The Dubai Ruler's Court.
