Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has helped 100 employees tide through their financial difficulties with a AED 1.15 million grant.

The funds were collected under a humanitarian initiative dubbed ‘Jisr Al Khair’ that was launched by the RTA Foundation in 2017 as part of the 'Year of Giving' drive.

In a series of Tweets, the RTA said AED 150,000 came from in-house donations as staff stepped in to help their fellow colleagues.

The funds were distributed to "deserving cases under strict conditions".

According to Dr Yousef Al Ali, chairman of the Higher Committee of RTA Foundation and CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation, the initiative charted out the deserving candidates based on "total or partial disability, chronic diseases, accumulated rents, and difficulties in paying school fees".

It strictly followed the stipulations of Beit Al Khair Society and the MoU signed in this regard, he added.
