Dubai is working on a cutting-edge traffic signal control system, which will be deployed across all major intersections, with full implementation expected by the first half of 2026.

According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the UTC-UX Fusion system will help improve journey times and reduce traffic congestion at intersections by 10% to 20%.

The new system, which integrates artificial intelligence (AI), predictive analytics and digital twin technologies, is designed to adapt dynamically to real-time traffic conditions, making intelligent decisions to optimize signal timings.

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, said that the project aims to enhance the travel experience for all road users—motorists, public transport passengers, pedestrians and cyclists—while prioritizing emergency vehicles and public transport.

The upgraded system features advanced predictive traffic analysis to optimize signal timings based on expected traffic, improving overall traffic flow.

It also uses digital twin technology to simulate and assess signal adjustments before they are implemented. Additionally, future road sensors will help fine-tune signal timings for even greater efficiency.

The initiative will also support future technologies like Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS/V2X), enabling communication between smart vehicles and traffic signals, reducing journey times, and enhancing the overall mobility experience across Dubai.
