Dubai to roll out free parking, discounted transport fares for senior Emiratis

Senior Emiratis in Dubai will soon enjoy free parking and discounted rates while using public transport under the a new partnership to support the 'Family First' programme.

The agreement between Ministry of Family and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will also exempt People of Determination from paying Salik, parking fees, public transport fares, as well as vehicle registration and renewal fees. They will also get a 50 per cent discount for taxi fares and driver licensing fees.

In addition, students will also enjoy discounted rates while using public transport.

The decision is aimed at easing the burden on families and enhancing the quality of life for Emiratis, while aligning with the objectives of the National Family Growth Agenda 2031.

"Cities that place the family at the heart of their planning are best positioned to achieve balanced and sustainable development," highlighted Sana bint Mohammed Suhail, Minister of Family.

Meanwhile, Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s RTA, said: “The collaboration will contribute to the development of new planning standards that incorporate family growth concepts into the design of transport stations, public facilities, and urban development areas, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global model for human-centred urban planning.”

RTA Initiatives for the Year of Family

The authority has released a package of initiatives, including organising a mass wedding for Emirati RTA employees and promoting home-based entrepreneurship. 

The initiatives also include providing a mobile nursery service for female employees by refurbishing a public bus and equipping it with educational and recreational facilities, transforming it into a temporary rest area for employees’ children during official working hours on Fridays.

In addition, RTA is producing digital content that highlights the values and culture of the Emirati family, with the aim of reinforcing national identity, as well as issuing special nol cards dedicated to the Year of Family.

The RTA has also allocated 243 cabins for women and children on Dubai Metro and Tram, processed more than 12,000 requests for the installation of celebratory and condolence signage, and provided more than 31,000 nol cards to students. RTA has also issued 331 driving licences to People of Determination, while more than 490 families have benefited from the In Safe Hands Service. In addition, RTA provides a nursery facility for employees’ children with a capacity of 100 children.
