Dubai gears up to launch region's first environmental nanometric satellite

Dubai Media Office

Engineers at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) have conducted the final tests on DMSat-1, just days ahead of its historic launch.

The region's first nanometric environmental satellite will take-off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on March 20.

The data from the satellite will help monitor, collect and analyse data as well as measure air pollutants and greenhouse gases, and develop long-term plans to address urban pollution.

Dubai Municipality and MBRSC's joint efforts will also strengthen the UAE’s implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement.

The project was implemented in close collaboration with a team from the University of Toronto (UofT), which has extensive experience in the manufacturing and launching of this type of satellite.
