All public parking meters in Dubai are now fully automated and equipped with touch screens.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the machines in paid parking zones across the emirate can now issue electronic tickets.

There has also been a significant increase in the payment of parking fees via mobile phones using apps and text messages.

"Payment via WhatsApp recorded about 9,000 transactions per day, while the daily use of RTA Dubai App has surged from 20k to 45k transactions per day this year," said Ahmed Mahboub, Executive Director of Parking at the RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency.

“In 2024, a multitude of initiatives will be launched, including a smart payment system for multi-level parking buildings, automatic payments for parking buildings, and a business-specific payment system. Additionally, we plan to make parking services smart and proactive by utilising big data to visualise parking occupancy and projected rates."
