Abu Dhabi Police has reported five cases of suffocation in the UAE due to the use of charcoal and firewood for heating inside homes.
Major General Mohammed Suhail Al Rashdi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector at Abu Dhabi Police stated that rapid response was provided for the incidents, with no fatalities recorded.
The announcement follows the authorities recent campaign, part of "Our Winter is Safe and Enjoyable," that raised awareness on avoiding using firewood, charcoal, or electrical heaters inside houses without safety precautions due to risks of suffocation and fire outbreaks.
The authorities have reminded the community to ensure proper ventilation when using traditional heating methods or devices, and make sure to extinguish or turn them off when sleeping or outside the house.
