The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority has warned building owners and contractors that tampering with fire safety systems could result in fines up to AED 10,000.
In a post on X, the Authority said: "Based on Cabinet Resolution No. (24) of 2012 regarding the organisation of Civil Defense services in the country.
"Modifying, disconnecting, removing, or covering any component of the automatic fire suppression system a fine shall be imposed 10,000 dirhams.
"The provisions of this clause apply to all existing buildings and facilities or those under construction, except for independent private houses and residential homes."
