Fifty-one people in the UAE were rescued from human trafficking in 2018, while 77 suspects were prosecuted - several of whom received life sentences.

The figures were revealed by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, who says that 30 cases of human trafficking were registered in the Emirates in 2018.

Gargash also highlighted that 240,000 vulnerable people benefitted from awareness programmes that were launched by the Committee as the UAE continues to lead the way regionally in tackling the issue.

Meanwhile, more than 6,000 officials undertook workshops and training programmes, in which they learnt about the different forms of trafficking and how to deal with cases.
