Twenty-two members of a begging network have been arrested in Dubai following a tip-off received on the "Police Eye" service on the force's app.
According to the report, the men targeted drivers on several key roads, claiming they were stranded and needed money for their travel.
Soon, a search operation was launched and specialised teams zeroed in on one suspect and tracked his movements.
It led them to uncover a larger, coordinated operation, with the men operating in key locations, including Al Khor Street, Ras Al Khor, the Bu Kadra Bridge and Dubai-Al Ain Road bridge.
According to the UAE law, the penalty for organised begging is a jail term of not more than six months and a fine of not more than AED 100,000.
Dubai Police highlighted the crucial role community members play in strengthening public safety, and urged people to report illegal activities via the "Police Eye" feature.
