The top pick in last month’s National Basketball League (NBA) draft has marked his first start for his new team in extraordinary circumstances.

Zion Williamson was playing for the New Orleans Pelicans in their pre-season encounter against the New York Knicks when the game was suspended midway through because of yet another earthquake in California.

New Orleans were ahead 80-74 in the fourth quarter when the 7.1 magnitude quake rocked California.

It was the second major tremor to hit the state in three days.

Officials were scared that an overhead scoreboard at the Thomas & Mack Center was at risk of falling.
