Kolkata Knight Riders have kept their hopes of qualifying for the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs alive.

They beat the Mumbai Indians by 34 runs on Sunday night at Eden Gardens in what was their last home game of the season.

Batting first, Kolkata posted a whopping total of 232 for 2 with Shubman Gill and Andre Russell smashing half centuries.

Mumbai ended up falling 34 runs short despite Hardik Pandya's 34-ball 91.

Earlier on Sunday, Delhi Capitals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore to go top of the points table and book their place in playoffs for the first time since 2012.

They successfully defended 187 as fast bowler Kagiso Rabada reclaimed the purple cap for being the highest wicket-taker this season.
