Iraq and Oman share points in Gulf Cup

Iraq and Oman opened their Arabian Gulf Cup campaigns with a 1-1 draw at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium, Jeddah.

Mohammed Qasim gave Iraq an early lead in the sixth minute after he latched onto an assist from captain Aymen Hussein.

Oman levelled in the 66th minute when Nasser Al-Ruwahi cut in from the left and fired home to bring his side back into the contest.

Iraq pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but Omani goalkeeper Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini produced a string of important saves to keep the scores level and secure a point for his team.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia beat Kuwait 1-0 at the Al-Inma Stadium in Jeddah, in the opening round of Group A.

The eight-team competition runs until October 6. The UAE begin their Group B campaign against Yemen on Thursday.
