England won the first one-day international against South Africa in Bloemfontein. The tourists made 399 for 9, their second-highest ODI total, with Jos Butler hitting a century off 73 deliveries. Quinton de Kock led the Proteas’ response, with a stunning 138 not out from 96 balls. Play was then suspended because of rain, with the hosts on 250 for 5, giving England a victory by 39 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method.
