After being bowled out for 179 on the opening day, the tourists blew over England for just 67 with fast bowler Josh Hazelwood five wickets for 30 runs.
The Aussies ended the second day's play on 171 for 6 with a comfortable second innings lead of 283.
A win for the visitors will see them a take a 2-0 series lead, allowing them to retain the Ashes urn.
